What?

What Do We Want to Change?

Action

Parents, teachers, and early childhood educators play a crucial role in developing children's social-emotional skills, character strengths, and well-being.

We provide educators and families with practical, research-based tools to support every child's positive development.

Change we want to create

Character strengths are essential, learnable skills.

Kindness, perseverance, self-regulation, curiosity, and compassion do not simply develop on their own. They need to be recognized, practiced, and encouraged through everyday interactions.

Long-term impact

Strong social-emotional skills and positive relationships support children's mental health, learning, school readiness, friendships, and lifelong well-being.

Early support can help prevent behavioral difficulties and create stronger foundations for future success.

Challenges

Challenges and Opportunities

Challenge

Not every child experiences belonging, positive relationships, or meaningful connections with peers. Some children struggle with friendships, emotional regulation, challenging behavior, or feeling included.

Our solution

Teach and model kindness, compassion, cooperation, and friendship skills through playful everyday activities. Create environments where every child feels safe, included, and valued.

Challenge

Children's emerging strengths and abilities may go unnoticed, especially when adults focus primarily on challenges or behavior. This can limit children's opportunities to develop confidence and a positive sense of self.

Our solution

Help educators intentionally SEE THE GOOD in every child. Recognize strengths, celebrate progress, and provide specific, positive feedback that helps children experience success.

Challenge

Character strengths and social-emotional skills are not always taught and reinforced systematically. Educators and families need practical knowledge, time, and tools to support these essential skills.

Our solution

Provide early childhood educators and leaders with professional learning, ready-to-use materials, and practical tools that integrate strengths-based education into everyday routines.

Challenge

Families may lack accessible resources and practical guidance for supporting character strengths, emotional development, and positive relationships at home. Early childhood educators also need developmentally appropriate materials that are easy to use.

Our solution

Offer families accessible, playful resources to support children's strengths at home. Develop a comprehensive early childhood learning solution combining educator training, digital resources, and hands-on materials for 2-K, 3-K, and Pre-K.

The cost

The Cost of Youth Disconnection in the United States

$596,640

Estimated lifetime societal cost per disconnected young person in the United States.

Beyond the financial cost lies the immeasurable human cost of lost opportunities and unrealized potential.

Early prevention matters. Every child deserves a strong start.

The path

Building a Path to Success from 2-K to Pre-K

Every child deserves equal opportunities to develop the character strengths and social-emotional skills essential for learning and life.

Access to strengths-based education should not depend on a child's neighborhood, family background, or individual educator.

Just as we intentionally support early literacy and numeracy, we must intentionally nurture kindness, perseverance, self-regulation, curiosity, and compassion.

Every child. Every classroom. Every day.
Our approach

Let's Invest Early

This is where we begin. Will you join us?

We begin here

Promotion

Building Well-Being for Every Child

Supporting healthy development, positive relationships, character strengths, and protective factors from the earliest years.

Prevention

Supporting Children Before Problems Escalate

Providing early support when developmental, emotional, behavioral, or learning challenges first emerge.

Too often, support becomes a priority only when challenges have already grown

Intervention & Support

Responding to Significant Challenges

Providing targeted professional support when children experience persistent or significant difficulties.

Intensive Intervention

Addressing Complex Needs

Providing specialized, coordinated services for children and families facing serious or complex challenges.

Our vision: Make well-being promotion a natural part of every child's early learning experience — from 2‑K to Pre‑K.
Our NYC vision

Strengthening the Well-Being of NYC Children, Educators, and Families

Our goal is to promote the well-being of children across New York City by strengthening character education, playful learning, positive relationships, and educators' professional skills.

Early childhood education is where this journey begins.

Our research-based See the Good! approach provides educators with practical strategies to recognize, name, and nurture children's emerging character strengths.

With the support of our partners, our proposed two-year initiative aims to:

  • Train participating 2-K, 3-K, and Pre-K educators and leaders in strengths-based education.
  • Provide access to See the Good! professional learning, digital resources, and hands-on teaching materials.
  • Offer families practical resources to support children's strengths and well-being at home.
  • Build and evaluate a scalable model for broader implementation across NYC early childhood education.

Our long-term vision: Every NYC child has the opportunity to thrive through their strengths.

Key people

Educators and Families Shape Children's Futures

Child Early Childhood Education Home Friends Community

Children's character strengths, emotional skills, and sense of belonging develop through everyday relationships and interactions.

The adults closest to children have the greatest opportunities to recognize, encourage, and strengthen these skills.

When educators and families share a strengths-based approach, children experience consistent support across their daily environments.

Teaching character strengths is as important as supporting early literacy and numeracy.

Equity

Every Child Deserves Equal Opportunities to Thrive

Public investment and strong partnerships are essential when bringing high-quality educational innovations into early childhood systems.

Our vision is to make strengths-based education accessible to every child, educator, and family across New York City.

By offering See the Good! professional learning, practical resources, and family support across early childhood programs, we can help reduce differences in access to intentional support for social-emotional development and well-being.

A child's opportunity to thrive should never depend on their ZIP code.

Families

Stronger Families, Stronger Children

Bringing See the Good! Home

Children's character strengths develop in everyday moments — during play, conversations, challenges, and shared experiences.

Parents and caregivers are essential partners in supporting children's well-being.

When families and educators work together, children thrive.

Helping Families Nurture Children's Strengths at Home

Families need accessible information, encouragement, and practical tools to support children's emotional development, positive relationships, and character strengths.

See the Good! aims to make research-based resources available to families through easy-to-use digital materials and playful activities.

Our family resources help parents and caregivers:

  • Recognize and celebrate their children's unique strengths.
  • Support emotional development and positive relationships.
  • Practice kindness, perseverance, and cooperation through everyday moments.
  • Build stronger connections between home and early childhood education.

Because the most important learning happens in everyday relationships.
